Paired activity: Learners should be given activities to enable them to practise
producing graphs, charts, tables, quotations and transcripts.
Look at each others Research Findings and examine how the graphs and tables have been produced. Task 1: Which are the most suitable to demonstrate:
Changes over time?
Differences in gender?
Parental attitudes to media?
Childrens concerns to online media?
Complete a Transcript of an interview or focus group relevant to these concerns on youtube to obtain quotations
Individual activity: Learners should practise referencing sources using a range of
techniques, including cross-referencing with other sources
Task 1: Compile your findings from your Research and draw out a list of findings (H/W?) Organise these into a Hieracrchy (H/W?) make connections between your findings using Poppet Colour code your difference sources to demonstrate links Where are there inconsistencies
B3 Referencing
and format of findings
Individual activity: Learners should use their findings to support judgements by outlining
arguments, showing logical progression and summarising to draw conclusions.
Task 2: Use your executive summary and draw a flowchart using Popplet as to how your findings support or outline arguments. What theory needs to be investigated to further the debate? What conclusions can you draw to these points in the summary?
B4 Catalogue of
sources
Tutor introduction:Explain how to compile a
catalogue of primary and secondary research.
Create your own 'Executive Summary' of the 2016 OFCOM report
Homework: Page 110 to 113 in Text Books
B2 Selecting, editing and deselecting materials
Objective: Update and annotate your portfolios using the research to present your findings in class next week.
For each of the 6 methods your chose:
Task 1: Individual activity: Learners should analyse the research techniques and methodologies previously used to assess suitability and suggest improvements by:
osifting – to remove irrelevant data or information
oannotating – to pick out content that is relevant to research topic.
Part 1: In your presentations you will discuss and visually present the data or information from your 6 methods that is relevant to the topic by using written annotations and highlighting
Part 2: You will then explain and give visual examples of data you removed due to irrelevance.
Task 2: Individual activity: Learners should analyse the research techniques and methodologies previously used to assess suitability and suggest improvements by:
oediting – selection and de-selection, redrafting content to ensure it is relevant and covers research focus, selecting material for final catalogue
oordering – hierarchy of findings
ocollating – charts, graphs and visual representation of findings. (Create graphs and visual displays for presentation next week)
Part 1: In your presentations you will discuss and visually present the actual content of your research that needs to be edited, redrafted or refined to ensure it is relevant to the topic and focus of the Report
Part 2: In your presentation you will have ordered your findings from your 6 methods in a hierarchy of importance/relevance to addressing the topic
Part 3: You will then explain and give visual examples of data you have collated both Quantitative and Qualitative
Individual
activity: Learners should analyse the research techniques and methodologies
previously used to assess suitability and suggest improvements by:
oworking through previous questionnaires to improve question quality and validity
orevising questionnaire scales and sample selection
oanalysing data from previous research and
recording their findings appropriately.
